EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior attacker Selena Lasota has been named one of five finalist for the 2019 Tewaaraton Award, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Thursday.
"The Tewaaraton Foundation commends these 10 finalists that have been chosen from a standout pool of talented nominees," said Jeffrey Harvey, Chairman of The Tewaaraton Foundation. "We wish them the very best in their respective playoff journeys and look forward to welcoming each of them and their families to Washington, D.C., on May 30th."
The Tewaaraton Award is awarded annually to one man and one woman who are determined to be the most outstanding American college lacrosse player. It is considered to be the most prestigious award given in college lacrosse.
Lasota leads the Wildcats and the Big Ten in 2019 with 74 goals heading into the NCAA Tournament. She also ranks fourth in the nation averaging 4.35 goals per game. Lasota found the back of the net a season-high nine times during a 23-13 win over Rutgers in March.
If Lasota wins the award, she will be the fourth recipient and sixth overall Tewaaraton winner in Northwestern history, with Hannah Nielsen (08,09) and Kristen Kjellman (06, 07) each winning it twice.
The 2019 Tewaaraton Award recipient will be announced May 30, 2019 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
