The first year is in third place after his 6-under 65 performance, tying his career-best 18-hole round score. Nyfjäll was bogey-free all 18-holes and tapped in six birdies.
Northwestern carded a 6-under 278 score for fourth place. The Wildcats sunk 21 birdies in round one, the second most on the day. Tennessee is in first place at 15-under.
Lucas Becht is tied for 27th after firing five birdies on the back nine to finish the round 1-under.
Eric McIntosh finsihed with an even par 71 to tie for 34th, while Ryan Lumsden and Everton Hawkins are tied for 42nd.
