EVANSTON, Ill. – This weekend, Northwestern will put their four-game win streak on the line as they take on No. 16 Johns Hopkins at Homewood Field.
The Wildcats are coming off of two top-25 wins after defeating No. 5 Penn 17-13 and Penn State 19-11.
Against the Nittany Lions, Senior Selena Lasota led with a game-high six goals and caused two turnovers. First-year Izzy Scane contributed four goal to the 'Cats 19 total goals and dished out three assists. The 'Cats dominated the Quakers with the help of 10 collective goals from Lasota and Scane and goals from Lauren Gilbert, Lindsey McKone, Megan Kinna and seniors Emily Stein and Liza Elder.
After a combined 20-goals over the weekend, Lasota and Scane earned their second and third Big Ten Athlete of the Week awards. Lasota also earned her first IWLCA Player of the Week Award from Inside Lacrosse.
The Blue Jays are currently 9-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play. The 'Cats are 14-4 all-time against Johns Hopkins, with their last meeting in 2018 resulting in a 11-10 Wildcat victory.
Saturday's game is set to take place at Homewood field at 9 am CT and will be televised on ESPNU.
WEEKLY HONORS
First-year Izzy Scane received her third consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after contributing eight goals to the 'Cats wins against Penn and Penn State. After 12-goals over the weekend, senior Selena Lasota earned her second Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week Award of the season and the sixth of her career. Lasota also earned her first IWLCA Player of the Week Award from Inside Lacrosse.
LASOTA IS ON THE LIST
In the doubleheader weekend against Penn and Penn State, senior Selena Lasota became the fourth Wildcat to reach 300 career points. Lasota also claimed the ninth spot on the NU all time assists list with 62. The senior reached 244 career goals to put her 19th on NCAA all-time list and second among all active players.
LEADING THE NATION
First-year Izzy Scane is leading the nation in shooting percentage through eleven games, shooting .725 pct. on 29 goals. The 'Cats also have the top scoring offense in the nation (18.91) and top shooting percentage (.542).
B1G LEAD
The Wildcats lead the Big Ten in assists per game (7.73), draw controls per game (17.36), points per game (26.64), shot percentage (.542) and scoring offense (18.91).
DYNAMIC DUO
Sophomores Lindsey McKone and Lauren Gilbert have each scored at least one goal in each of the eleven games this season. McKone and Gilbert have totaled 25 and 28 goals respectively.
RACK EM' UP
The 'Cats have scored 208 goals through eleven games this season. The Wildcats are ranked No. 1 in the country in scoring offense and second in points per game (26.64). NU has seven student-athletes with double digit goals this season including Selena Lasota (42), Izzy Scane (29), Lauren Gilbert (28), Lindsey McKone (25) Claire Quinn (14), Jill Girardi (11) and Megan Kinna (11) .
