THERE'S A FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Winners of five out of their last six, Northwestern is set to play its first road Big Ten series of the year ... NU was last in Columbus for a three-game set in 2016.
DOING SOME RECON: Ohio State owns a 16-13 record and fell, 9-5, to Cincinnati in a midweek on Wednesday ... The Buckeyes started their Big Ten campaign with a series victory over Rutgers in Piscataway ... OSU owns a .272 team batting average, the third-best mark in the B1G ... Brady Cherry is batting .353, the sixth-best mark in the Conference ... The Buckeyes have slugged 27 home runs, second most in the conference (Indiana is first with 55!) ... SUCCESS ON THE BUMP: Sophomore southpaw Quinn Lavelle has made seven starts, five of which have been quality starts ... His most recent start was his second-career complete game shutout Eight of his 16 total earned runs allowed this season came in one start at Kent State ... Not counting that effort, he would have a 1.83 ERA ... In five out of his seven starts, he has allowed one or fewer runs ... He has allowed only one home run in 39.1 innings pitched and has induced a team-best four double plays.
NOT DUNN YET: Senior infielder Jack Dunn has started every game since coming to Evanston, a 185-game streak ... He has reached base in 46 of his last 48 games ... He has a hit in 21 of 25 games this season ... His .480 on-base percentage is tops in the Big Ten.
HANK THE TANK: Junior starter Hank Christie has been the most effective Wildcat this season at putting the ball in the zone ... Of the 565 pitches he has thrown this season, 372 have been called for strikes (65.8 percent).
I LIKE MIKE: Rookie starter Mike Doherty comes into this series with a streak of 12.0-consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak for any Wildcat pitcher this season.

WHAT A REVELATION: Junior righty Nick Paciorek, after converting from a catcher, has been a tremendous contributor for the Wildcats ... He has three saves in nine appearances, totaling 11.0 IP ... He has a 33.3 percent strikeout rate, the best mark on the squad ... Opposing batters are hitting .162 against Paciorek and own a .189 opposing slugging percentage.
WHEN IT MATTERS MOST: Senior infielder Jack Dunn is hitting a team-best .519 (14-for-27) with runners in scoring position ... His .522 clip (12-for-23) with two outs is the best mark for the Wildcats this season ... His brother David's .452 (14-for-31) mark is the second-best. ... Jack's 11 two-out RBI are the most on the team
POP TIME: Rookie backstop Michael Trautwein has been effective behind the plate, as he has a 41.2 caught stealing percentage this season ... Trautwein retired all four would-be base stealers in the Purdue series ... Seven of NU's 11 wins have come with Trautwein behind the plate.
THIS ONLY INTERESTS ME: In 92 at-bats (third-most on the team), Jack Dunn has only struck out looking twice.
