EVANSTON, Ill. – Fresh off a three-game sweep at Iowa last weekend, Northwestern will look to keep its momentum rolling as it hosts Loyola (Chicago) on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. CT.
The #B1GCats have won eight of their last nine games, including their first six Big Ten games to improve to a perfect 6-0 in conference play for the first time since 2015. The Wildcats also clocked in at No. 14 in this week's NCAA Women's Softball RPI rankings, the second-highest mark in the conference.
After going 2-0 this past weekend with two complete game shutouts, first year Danielle Williams was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
The Wildcats own an 18-8 advantage all time over the Ramblers, and came away victorious in the most recent matchup. Last year in Evanston, Northwestern won 4-1 behind a complete game from now-junior Morgan Newport, who allowed no earned runs and struck out seven.
The NU offense hit .280 on the weekend against Iowa while the pitching staff held the Hawkeyes to just a .092 batting average. The 'Cat outscored the hosts 17-2
and outhit them 23-6.
The Wildcats will look to get off to a strong start tomorrow, which has been a excellent bellwether for them all season. They are 18-2 when they score first and 15-1 when they score in the first inning. Overall, Northwestern has outscored opponents 42-10 in the first inning throughout the 2019 campaign.
After the matchup with Loyola, Chicago's Big Ten Team resumes conference play with a weekend trip to Nebraska for three game series starting on Friday.
