IOWA CITY, Iowa – Northwestern men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the last day of competition at the 2019 Big Ten Championship hosted by Iowa.
The Wildcats tallied 18 new personal bests and three finals cuts across the seven events on the final day of competition.
In the 200 back, first-year Manu Bacarizo and senior Jack Thorne tied for 12th and senior Tyler Lis finished 15th overall. The 'Cats also had new personal bests from first-years Patrick Gridley and Brandon Kulik.
Led by first-year Andrew Zhang's top-30 finish, Northwestern secured five new personal bests in the 100 free from sophomores Keegan Bundy, Robert Cecil, Peter Lewczyk and first-year Ezra Mizgala.
Senior Will Hofstadter was the top NU finisher in the 200 breast, qualifying for the C-final and finishing with a new PR. The Wildcats also finished with three new personal bests from first-year Henry Blaul, senior Thanas Kountroubis and sophomore Lyon Zhang.
In the 1650 free, the Wildcats wracked up 25 points from sophomores Jeffrey Durmer, Liam Gately, senior DJ Hwang and junior Colin Murphy. Senior Justin Hanson also swam a new lifetime bests in the 200 fly. In the platform dive, senior Ben Magliato was the top NU finisher in 22nd place.
In the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay team of A. Zhang, Hofstadter, first-year Ryan Gridley and Gately touched in a season best time of 2:54.15 to bring the Northwestern total to 378 points and a ninth place finish.
