PHOENIX, Ariz. — Senior Stephanie Lau led the 17th-ranked Northwestern women's golf team in round one of the PING/ASU Invitational Friday and is tied for seventh after posting a 1-under, 71.
Lau made a pair of birdies on the front nine, including her first of the day on No. 3. The 424-yard, par-4 hole ranked as the toughest hole of the day, surrendering just four birdies in the opening round. The senior had back-to-back birdies on No. 9 and No. 10 to move to 2-under and was 3-under after her birdied at No. 13, but dropped a pair of shots down the stretch to finish off her team-best ninth round of par or better this season.
