HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C — First year Kelly Sim led Northwestern on day one of the eighth annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Club Friday.
Sim is tied for 28th after posting a 2-over, 73, in the opening round. She carded 12 pars, three birdies and three bogeys and is just five shots off the lead with two rounds to play.

Fellow first year Jane Lu — playing in her second tournament of the spring — finished with a strong back nine to shoot a 4-over, 75, and is tied for 44th.
Seniors Stephanie Lau and Janet Mao rounded out the Wildcats' scoring four and are tied for 52nd at 5-over. Lau came out of the gates with an even-par front nine, but had three bogeys and a double bogey on the back to finish with a 76.
The 'Cats are 14th in the 17-team field at 16-over and will tee off Saturday at 9:20 a.m. with Baylor and Oklahoma State.
