EVANSTON, Ill. — Another weekend, another school record for Northwestern junior standout Aubrey Roberts.
Roberts' school record in the 3,000-meter highlighted an impressive weekend that included five top-5 finishes for the Wildcat cross country program at a pair of indoor track meets.
The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native opened the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, with a time of 9:13.73. Roberts set the 1-miler school record last week and the 5,000-meter school record at the BU Season Opener in December.
While Roberts was shattering records in Ames, eight Wildcats were making their mark in Allendale, Michigan, at the GVSU Big Meets.
Junior Sarah Nicholson highlighted the GVSU Big Meets with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter Saturday morning. Nicholson, running in just her second indoor meet of the season, ran a season-best 9:53.61.
Junior Kelly O'Brien posted a pair of top-5 finishes in the 1-mile and 3,000-meter. O'Brien crossed the finish line in season-best 4:48.65 to finish fourth in the mile on Friday before finishing fifth in the 3,000 meter in 10:04.77 on Saturday.
First-year Sielle Kearney was sandwiched between Nicholson and O'Brien with a 10:02.00 to finish fourth. Fellow first year Hannah Hall finished 12th in 10:11.85, while Vanessa Garcia and Hannah Tobin finished 19th and 31st, respectively.
