PALM COAST, Fla. – Junior Everton Hawkins picked up two individual wins for the Wildcats in the second day of Big Ten Match Play Saturday afternoon.
Hawkins defeated both of his opponents from Purdue and Michigan State, 2&1.
In the first match of the day, Northwestern went head-to-head in a close contest with Purdue. Eric McIntosh went 1-up after making par on the 17thhole but it was not enough to top the Boilermakers, as the Wildcats fell, 4-2.
Northwestern finished eighth overall after a 3.5-2.5 defeat by Michigan State in the fourth round.
"Obviously we really struggled in the tougher conditions today. We will learn a lot from playing 3 tight matches but we know there is a lot of room for improvement and we need to be better under pressure. We just weren't tough enough this week," said head coach David Inglis, "We will get in a good week of practice in at home and excited for our trip to the Prestige next weekend."
Chicago's Big Ten Team will play in its first stroke play event of the spring on Feb. 18-20, at the Prestige at PGA West in La Quinta, California.
