‘Cats Send off Seniors with Strong Tri-Dual Performances

Northwestern wrapped up their second day of competition against Minnesota and Purdue at the 2019 Big Ten Tri Meet with strong performance on both the men's and women's side.

The Wildcats began the day at the Norris Aquatics Center honoring the 14 student-athletes in this year's senior class. On the men's side Justin Hanson, Will Hofstadter, Thanas Kountroubis, Tyler Lis, Ben Magliato, Arjun Sharma, Ryan Tate and Jack Throne were honored, while Lindsay Adamski, Alex Grimes, Annika Kollevoll, Janicia Ng, Olivia Rosendahl and Eryn Scannell were honored on the women's side.  

After the senior day celebration, the action was quickly underway with the 'Cats finishing third and fifth, respectively, in the men's and women's 200 free relay. The women's team of Han, Vovk, Lara, Hellmer touched in a time of 1:34.60, and Zhang, Hofstadter, Mizgala, Ryan Gridley finished in 1:22.03 for the men.

The second day of action was highlighted by wins from several 'Cats. Ilektra Lebl was the first to claim victory, winning the 400 IM in a season best time of 4:20.77. She was followed closely by sophomore Calypso Sheridan in a time of 4:22.63. On the men's side, the 'Cats brought home two event wins on day two. Jeffrey Durmer took first in the 400 IM in a time of 4:00.18. First year Manuel Bacarizo was victorious in the 200 back and just out touched teammate Jack Thorne who came in with a time of 1:48.50.

Sheridan and sophomore Sophie Angus finished 2-3 in the 200 breast with times of 2:13.54 and 2:15.05, respectively. Northwestern had several other third place finishers on the day, including sophomore Liam Gately in the 500 free, first year Miriam Guevara in the 100 fly and Lis in the 400 IM.

On the boards, senior Olivia Rosendahl secured second in the one meter, finishing with a score of 291.15.

Chicago's Big Ten Team closed out the day with third and fourth place finishes in the 400 free relay. The men's team claimed the third spot as the team of Andrew Zhang, Sharma, Gately and Lewczyk touched the wall in 3:00.90. The women's team of Hellmer, Han, Lara and Vovk finished fourth with a time of 3:28.41.

Northwestern will be back in the pool for the Big Ten Championships starting February 20 for the women and February 27 for the men.
