EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern continues its five-game homestand at the New Welsh-Ryan Arena with a matchup against crosstown foe Chicago State on Monday night. Tip-off is set at 8 p.m.
The Wildcats are 7-3 and fresh off a 75-69 win against DePaul last Saturday, fueled by a 25-0 run in the second half. Senior Vic Law led all scorers with 25 points and shot a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe, while redshirt junior A.J. Turner erupted for a career-high 24 points including a career-best six threes.
Senior center Dererk Pardon stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, eight rebounds, a career-high five assists, and four blocks. Sophomore Anthony Gaines also shared the rock, posting a career-high seven assists to go with seven rebounds.
Northwestern is a perfect 12-0 against Chicago State in the all-time series and enjoyed a 96-31 win last season against the Cougars. The 65-point margin was the biggest-ever in NU history.
Scouting the Opponent
Chicago State is 3-9 to start the season but won three out of its last four against East-West, Eastern Illinois and Trinity Christian before dropping its matchup the last time out to DePaul, 104-70. Senior Anthony Harris leads the offense with 15.6 points per game to go with 5.9 rebounds per game. Fellow senior Rob Shaw averages 11.7 points per game and a team-high 6.1 assists per game.
