EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern wrestling is ready to christen the new Welsh-Ryan Arena with its first home dual of the 2018-19 season. The 25th-ranked Wildcats will play host to No. 10 Virginia Tech starting at 2 p.m. CT.
NU is making a highly-anticipated return to their home venue after Welsh-Ryan Arena received extensive renovations, including seat-back chairs, state-of-the-art audio/visual technology, increased concessions and restrooms, plus much more.
The Wildcats dropped their first dual of the campaign to an upstart North Dakota State squad, but NU saw multiple impressive victories in the contest, including a 1:16 pin by redshirt first-year Yahya Thomas.
Four NU grapplers are ranked in the Intermat top-20, highlighted by returning All-American Sebastian Rivera, who is ranked second in the nation.
