Northwestern Hosts Lewis Flyers in Exhibition Sunday

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's basketball team is set to take on their first opponent in the new Welsh-Ryan Arena on Sunday as they open with an exhibition game against the Lewis Flyers. 
 
The new Welsh-Ryan arena opened for the first time on Friday, Nov. 2. 
 
With ten returners, the Wildcats add four first-years to the squad: Jess Sancataldo, ESPN top 100 recruit, Sydney Wood, Boston Globe Player of the Year, Veronica Burton, and Courtney Shaw who received an ESPN scout grade of 90. 
 
Senior Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah, junior Abi Scheid and sophomore Lindsey Pulliamwere named team captains earlier this year.  
 
The Lewis Flyers are coming off a 24-8 season with a record of 15-3 in their GLVC conference games. Their season came to an end after a 49-63 loss to Drury in the NCAA Midwest Regional.
 
The 'Cats with face-off against the Flyers of Lewis on Sunday, Nov.4 at 2 p.m. CT. and will be streamed on BTN2Go here.
 
Northwestern will begin their regular season on the road at Green Bay, Nov. 6 before returning to Welsh-Ryan arena for the official home-opener against Duke, Nov. 11.
