Northwestern Battles DePaul to 1-1 Draw

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern played DePaul to a hard-fought 1-1 draw Tuesday night despite outshooting the Blue Demons 14-4 in the second half and overtime.

The Wildcats move to 4-5-4 on the year, and continue to lead the all-time series versus DePaul 17-11-2.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team opened the game firing, taking the lead in the 7th minute off a cross from Tommy Katsiyiannis to the head of Garrett Opperman, who put it away for his second goal of the year. DePaul responded with ten first-half shots, culminating in an equalizer from Matthew Brickman in the 31st minute.  
 
Northwestern put much pressure on the Blue Demons in the second half, firing five shots in the first 10 minutes and 10 total in the half. The Wildcats continued to dominate possession in overtime, earning five corner kicks and taking four shots but failing to find the game winner.
 
This crosstown clash was a physical battle with 33 fouls called and five yellow cards handed out.
 
The Wildcats next travel to face Rutgers on Friday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. CT.
