EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwester senior wide receiver Flynn Nagel has been added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club announced Wednesday.
The Biletnikoff Award is given annually to the nation's top receiver. Former Wildcat Austin Carr, now of the New Orleans Saints, was a finalist for the award in 2016.
Nagel leads Chicago's Big Ten Team with 56 receptions and 693 receiving yards. He has scored two touchdowns. The Lemont, Illinois, native is third in the country in receptions per game (8.0) and 15th in receiving yards. He has caught at least three passes in all seven games this season, including a career-high 12 versus Duke on Sept. 8 and Nebraska on Oct. 13. Nagel had a career-high 220 receiving yards — the third most in NU single-game history — and two touchdowns in the win over the Cornhuskers to earn Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors.
A three-year starter, Nagel is one of just two players in the Big Ten and four players nationally to catch at least 10 passes in at least three games. His 56 catches through seven contests are the most by a NU player since at least 2000 and his 693 receiving yards are second only to Carr in the same time frame. He has caught at least one pass in 25-straight games, the second longest streak in the Big Ten.
Nagel and the Wildcats are 4-3 overall with a 4-1 Big Ten mark to lead the West Division. The 'Cats will host No. 19/20 Wisconsin this Saturday at Ryan Field at 11 a.m. CT.
