EVANSTON, Ill. — First-year David Nyfjäll was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week, the Conference announced Wednesday.
The Uppsala, Sweden, native earned his first-career individual medal in only his third collegiate tournament after an 11-under performance at the Chatham Hills Collegiate, Oct. 14-15. With the honor, Northwestern golfers have earned three of seven weekly Big Ten honors this season, as senior Ryan Lumsden has also added two weekly nods.
His 11-under, 205 score was tied for the second-best by an NU rookie in program history. He started the event with a sterling, 7-under 65, also one of the best rounds in Wildcat history. Nyfjäll also paced the event with 17 birdies and helped lead the Wildcats to a 16-under team finish.
Northwestern wraps up its fall slate with the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate (Oct. 27-28).
