Evanston, Ill. -- Ty Seager found his first goal of the season, and Miha Miskovic recorded his fifth shutout of the season, as Northwestern grounded the University of Missouri Kansas City Kangaroos with a 1-0 victory.
Northwestern (4-1-1) has not allowed a goal in three home matches at Martin Stadium this season.
UMKC (1-4) was unable to pose much of a threat, as it was held to just three shots on goal. Northwestern was able to get eleven shots off against the 'Roos, with six on target.
The game got off to a hot start, with the Wildcats earning a first minute free kick on their first attack of the game. Mattias Tomasino's effort skimmed over the crossbar as the game stayed level.
Both teams were able to parry their opponent's attacks, with possession largely staying in the center third of the field. There were 12 fouls and just nine shots in the first half, with only three on target.
Northwestern was able to break the game open 75th minute, John Moderwell played a ball into the left side of the box, where Seager collected the ball and ripped an outside of the foot shot into the far netting.
With UMKC chasing the game in the final five minutes, Miskovic had to come up big, parrying a driven shot over the bar before clearing the ensuing corner. The Wildcats were able to close out the clean sheet, as they preserved the 1-0 victory.
The Wildcats will open Big Ten play when they host Maryland on Friday Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
