MADISON, Wis. — Northwestern men's soccer remained unbeaten on the 2018 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Valparaiso Saturday evening in Madison, Wisconsin, thanks to Tommy Katsiyiannis' game-winner in the 72nd minute.
"That was a good win vs a good Valpo team," said head coach Tim Lenahan. "We really struggled in the first half beating their pressure, but did a better job in second half, made a play and then defended very solidly for the remainder of the game. We had some great contributions from the bench today as Sean Lynch, Mac Mazzola and Matt Moderwell had a positive impact on the game. We will recover tomorrow and get ready for a nationally-ranked Fordham team on Sunday."
Northwestern (2-0-1) has not allowed a goal this season as Miha Miskovic extended his shutout streak to 290:00. Miskovic posted three saves in the effort.
Valparaiso (1-2-0) was aggressive on the offensive end Saturday evening, outshooting the Wildcats by a 14-9 margin. Rafael Mentzingen led the way for Valpo with five shots, while Demar Rose posted three shots.
Bardia Kimiavi, Mattias Tomasino and Katsiyiannis each registered shots on net.
Northwestern will face Fordham on Monday, Sept. 3, at noon.
