EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern put on a gutsy defensive performance Sunday afternoon, playing Xavier to a 0-0 draw at Martin Stadium.
Northwestern (1-0-1) leaned on its backline and goalkeeper Miha Miskovic for the shutout and the result. Miskovic tallied four saves in the effort and earned his second consecutive clean sheet of the season.
Xavier (1-0-1) registered 22 shots in the effort. Payton Miller posted three shots in the contest and put a pair of shots on target.
Tommy Katsiyiannis, Bardia Kimiavi and Garrett Opperman each tallied a shot in the effort.
Northwestern finished the weekend unbeaten and did not allow a goal after topping Cleveland State, 3-0, Friday evening in the season opener.
The Wildcats will head to Madison, Wisconsin, for a pair of games over Labor Day weekend. Northwestern will face Valparaiso on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. and then wrap up the weekend with a noon kick against Fordham on Monday, Sept. 3.
