Northwestern Opens Season With 3-1 Win over South Dakota

MILWAUKEE — Northwestern recorded a 3-1 win over South Dakota in the opening match of the Panther Invitational on Friday morning.
 
The 'Cats will compete against New Hampshire this evening, playing the Wildcats at 5 p.m. CT. The matchup will be broadcast on Milwaukee's Black & Gold Network YouTube channel.

  • Chicago's Big Ten Team is now 1-0 all-time against South Dakota.
  • Northwestern has won five-straight season openers, dating back to a 3-2 win over Colorado in 2014.
  • The Wildcats limited the Coyotes to a hitting percentage of -.103 in the first set … South Dakota only had a hitting percentage of .103 in the match
  • Kiara McNulty picked up her first-career double-double, amassing 49 assists and 15 digs.
  • Abryanna Cannon led the Wildcats with 16 kills … Olivia Viscuso was the team leader in hitting percentage, posting a .533 clip … Sarah Johnson led with 21 digs.
  • Olivia Viscuso set career-highs in kills (9) and hitting percentage (.533).
  • In the second set, Abryanna Cannon led the 'Cats with six kills and a .417 hitting percentage.
