EVANSTON, Ill. – Storied Northwestern goalkeeper Lauren Clem has signed a professional contract with Swedish club Uppsala Fotboll, it was announced Wednesday.
Clem, an All-American and one of the top goalkeepers in Northwestern, Big Ten, and NCAA history, will begin her professional career June 30 in Uppsala, Sweden.
"I want to give a huge thank you for my family for always being supportive of my goals and motivating me, to my youth coaches for helping me find a passion worth fighting for every day, and to my Northwestern coaches, who challenged me to become the woman I am today both on and off the field," Clem said.
The All-Big Ten and Scholar All-America goalkeeper set a program record for minutes played during the 2017 season, while earning a spot on the Hermann Trophy Watch List for the nation's best player, being honored as a Senior CLASS Award candidate, and winning three consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards.
"Northwestern gave me a platform to showcase my abilities and grow as a confident leader," Clem said. "I can say that this sport, the amazing experiences I have had, and the unforgettable memories have prepared me to tackle anything I set my mind to."
Clem holds Northwestern career program records in most consecutive games started (89), minutes played (8,493), goals against average (0.63), shutouts (48), and shutout streak (658:28) and ranks second in saves (358). Her 48 shutouts are a Big Ten record and the third-most in NCAA history.
The 2018 Uppsala Elite schedule runs through October 28.
