ROCHESTER, Minn. — Three Wildcats are set to wrestle at the World Team Trials Challenge, starting on Friday at the RCTC Regional Sports Center.
Ryan Deakin (70 kg) will be wrestling in the Senior Men's Freestyle bracket, which starts on Saturday at 10 a.m. CT with quarterfinals and consolations. Semifinals, finals, consolations, and third-place matches will proceed starting at 5 p.m. CT.
The best-two-out-of-three championship will start at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday. The winner of the best-two-out-of-three will then have the right to face James Green in Lincoln, Nebraska, on June 9 in the Final X.
In the junior freestyle bracket, NU will send Yahya Thomas (65 kg) and incoming Wildcat Lucas Davison (92 kg). The duo will start their wrestling at 10 a.m. CT on Friday with first-round, quarterfinals, and consolation competition. The semifinals, finals, consolation, and third-place bout will start at 4 p.m. CT.
The best-two-out-of-three championship will be held at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday. The winner will advance to the Junior World Championships, August 17-23, in Trvava, Slovakia.
Thomas will wrestle Minnesota true freshman Jakob Bergeland in the first round, while Davison will be pitted against Fresno State freshman Danny Salas.
