EVANSTON, Ill. – Sophomores Aubrey Roberts and Kelly O'Brien have earned coveted invitations to the 2018 NCAA West Track & Field Preliminary, hosted by Sacramento State University at Hornet Stadium May 24-26, the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Roberts will represent the Wildcats in the 5000M, earning the No. 31 seed thanks to her 16:10.05 run at the Stanford Invitational in March. She also posted a qualifying time in the 10K at April's Mt. Sac Relays, but will not participate in the event.
O'Brien earned her spot in Sacramento in Northwestern's final regular-season event of the spring, last weekend's Oxy Invitational, where she ran a 4:24.46 in the 1500M to win her heat.
O'Brien will compete on the opening Thursday of the three-day event in northern California, with 1500M heats slated to begin at 6 p.m. PT. Roberts will toe the line near the end of the competition, scheduled for 8:45 p.m. PT on Saturday night.
