FINAL RESULTS
NORTH ARLINGTON, Ohio — Northwestern is back in the NCAA Championships after an incredibly consistent performance at the Ohio State University Scarlet Course on Wednesday.
The Wildcats were paced by a stellar round by junior Ryan Lumsden, who fired a 5-under 66 to finish with a 2-under performance overall, which tied for fourth-best overall.
With Northwestern's women's golf team also playing in the NCAA Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, Chicago's Big Ten Team the only Big Ten school to send both the men's and women's programs to the Championships.
As a team, NU posted a 1-over 285 on Wednesday, tied for the best round of the day with team champion Oklahoma State, who finished at 8-under.
The Wildcats are one of five teams advancing out of the Columbus Regional Championship, joining Oklahoma State, Illinois (E), UNLV (+15), and Texas Tech (+18). Michigan's Kyle Mueller won the individual championship at 5-under.
Northwestern had three golfers join Lumsden in the top-20, as Dylan Wu (+3) finished in a 16th place tie and Everton Hawkins (+6) finished tied for 20th. Sam Triplett (+12) finished in 42nd, while Eric McIntosh (+14) finished tied for 46th.
Lumsden's round featured six birdies in his career-best tying round. Wu played a clean round, notching two birdies and a bogey.
Next up for the Wildcats are the NCAA Championships, which will be May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The event features three days of stroke play (May 25-27) and then there is a cut — the top 15 teams and top nine individuals not on an advancing team will continue playing. There is then a final day of 18 holes of stroke play (May 28) to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion.
The team national champion will be determined by an eight-team match play tournament (May 29-30), then quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for May 9. The finals are on May 30.
The NCAA Championships will air live on the Golf Channel, beginning on Monday, May 28 to crown the individual national champion, as well as to track the trams attempting to qualify for the eight-team match-play tournament. Golf Channel's coverage will also include all three rounds of the team match play tournament.
