WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Senior Jack Claeys notched a pair of hits and drove in a run, but it was not enough as Northwestern fell in the series finale at Purdue, 9-2, Sunday afternoon.
Northwestern (14-28, 4-17 B1G) posted five knocks on the afternoon with Willie Bourbon, Ben Dickey and Alex Erro each adding to hit tally.
Purdue improved to 27-16 overall and 13-4 in league play with the sweep.
The Wildcats used three pitchers on the afternoon. Sophomore Matt Gannon tossed 4.0 innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs. Gannon fanned a trio of batters. Anthony Alepra went 3.0 innings with a strikeout and two runs allowed.
Purdue did its damage early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first two innings.
Leo Kaplan got Northwestern on the board in top of the fourth via a sacrifice fly.
The Boilermakers added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom half of the fourth to push their lead to 9-1.
