Wildcats To Head To Columbus for NCAA Regionals

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will travel to the Ohio State University Golf Club – Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, for the NCAA Regional Championship, it was announced Wednesday on Golf Channel. The Wildcats will be the sixth-seeded team.

Hosted by Ohio State, the regional competition will take place May 14-16. Thirty teams — five from each of the six regional sites — and the top six individuals from non-advancing teams will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, played May 25-30 at Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The Scarlet Course is a 7,400-yard, par-71 course that is the home site for the Buckeyes during the regular season.

Chicago's Big Ten Team played their 1999 regional competition at the Scarlet Course, where the Wildcats finished in second place, advancing to the NCAA Championships. That team ended up in third place in the nation.

Northwestern made its most recent trip to the Scarlet Course in the 2015-16 season for the Kepler Intercollegiate. Senior Dylan Wu paced the 'Cats at the event, finishing tied for eighteenth.

The other teams at the Columbus Regional will be: Oklahoma State, Illinois, Texas Tech, UNLV, Wake Forest, Penn State, Tennessee, Louisville, Jacksonville, Michigan State, Yale, and Cleveland State.

The Wildcats have qualified for the NCAA Regionals for the third-straight year, and the 20th time in Director of Golf and Player Development Pat Goss' 26-year tenure. Northwestern finished in a fifth-place tie last year in Baton Rouge.

All six regional sites conduct their three-day, 54-hole tournaments concurrently. Other regional tournaments will be hosted in Raleigh, North Carolina; Bryan, Texas; Kissimmee, Florida; Norman, Oklahoma; and Stockton, California.

In last weekend's Big Ten Championships, the Wildcats took home fifth place, with standout performances from senior Dylan Wu and junior Ryan Lumsden.

Lumsden's 4-over finish placed him in a tie for tenth place in the contest, while Wu's 2-under 68 on Saturday and even-par finish earned him third overall, and a spot on the All-Championship Team.
