EVANSTON, Ill. – First-year Rachel Lewis has earned a Big Ten weekly award for the third time this season after being named the Freshman of The Week by the conference office on Monday.
Lewis continued her Big Ten power surge in the last week, slugging .889 and driving in eight in five games, including a three home run performance at Illinois. First, she smashed two home runs in an 8-7 victory over Illinois before adding her first-career grand slam in the second contest.
Against Nebraska, Lewis reached base in every game and scored three runs while doubling home another. It was Northwestern's first-ever series victory over Nebraska.
Lewis leads the Big Ten and ranks 12th in the nation with 41 total RBIs while ranking 19th on the country with 11 total home runs.
Northwestern is back in action on the diamond this weekend, April 6-8, at Purdue before returning home to take on Ohio State April 13-15 at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
