CLEVELAND — This morning, true first-year Colin Valdiviez (133) was the first alternate in his weight class. In Session II, he knocked off the 19th-ranked wrestler in the nation to advance in consolations.
In all, four Wildcats remain alive in the NCAA competition.
Valdiviez, who topped Illinois' Dylan Duncan, 7-5, for the second time this season, will wrestle 14th-seeded Korbin Myers of Edinboro in the second round of consolations.
Redshirt junior Johnny Sebastian (174) commanded his bout against Drexel's Austin Rose in the first round of the consolations, winning via 6-1 decision. Sebastian will battle 16th-seeded CJ Brucki of Central Michigan in the next round.
