INDIANAPOLIS — Despite Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah cementing herself as one of the top rebounders in Big Ten history on Thursday afternoon, Northwestern's season came to a close with a 55-45 setback against No. 5 seed Iowa at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Wildcats started slow in the Big Ten Tournament Second Round game, but outscored Iowa, 44-33, from the start of the second quarter on.
Kunaiyi-Akpanah finished with 17 rebounds, the fourth-most in a Big Ten Tournament game, tied with Angela Hawkins (Indiana) and Jantel Lavender (Ohio State). It is the most rebounds in a Big Ten Tournament game since 2014.
It improved her final season rebound output to 381, moving her to fourth-most all-time in Big Ten history. Northwestern's all-time single-season rebounding leader is one of only three players in Big Ten history to post more than 380 rebounds in a season.
First year guard Lindsey Pulliam led all Wildcats in scoring, posting 17 points, including 10 in the second half.
After not making a field goal in the first quarter, Northwestern had a rousing second quarter against Iowa, outscoring the Hawkeyes, 19-9. The Wildcats shot 47 percent from the field in the period, while the Hawkeyes were held to only 20 percent.
Chicago's Big Ten Team held Iowa without a field goal for the last 5:06 of the second quarter to enter halftime with only a 31-20 deficit.
The Wildcats outscored Iowa, 16-14, in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete the comeback.
