EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Erin Larner is the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday.
It is the third such honor of her career and her first this season.
Larner picked up two wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in helping the 14th-ranked Wildcats open their Big Ten season with a pair of victories.
In Friday's victory at fifth-ranked Illinois, Larner teamed with Maddie Lipp in doubles as the nation's second-ranked team posted a convincing 6-1 win. She followed it up with a win in singles as Northwestern won its second consecutive match over a team ranked in the top 10.
In Sunday's victory over Iowa, Larner again teamed with Lipp for a win in doubles before notching a straight-set victory in singles.
Larner is ranked No. 1 in the nation in doubles alongside Lipp while also ranking No. 50 in singles.
Northwestern (8-2, 2-0 B1G) has won its last five matches and is No. 8 in this week's ITA Tennis rankings. The Wildcats return to action at 2:30 p.m. Friday when they host fifth-ranked Georgia Tech in a top-10 battle at Combe Tennis Center.
