EVANSTON, Ill. — Six sophomore student-athletes have been named this year's I-MAP Award recipients, NU for Life announced Friday.
I-MAP, which stands for Immersion, Mentorship and Actualization Program, is a 3-5 day industry immersion experience, designed to facilitate student-athletes' connections with mentors and to expand their professional network.
This year's I-MAP winners are Barret Benson (Men's Basketball/Film & Entertainment), Sean Lynch (Men's Soccer/Finance), Abby Dein (Women's Soccer/Political Affairs & International Relations), Abbie Wolf (Women's Basketball/Journalism), Olivia Viscuso (Volleyball/Healthcare), and Erica Hootstein (Field Hockey/Predictive Analytics).
The experience can happen anywhere in the nation, features flexible dates, and is set-up through NU for Life. The I-MAP initiative is in its second year, and is supported through the generosity of Kellogg alum, Michael Price.
NU for Life is a unique program dedicated to the professional development of Northwestern student-athletes.
It provides student-athletes the opportunity to explore professional possibilities by capitalizing on the knowledge and network of former student-athletes, friends of Wildcat Athletics and companies looking to invest in the most talented recent graduates.
The mission of NU for Life is to equip Northwestern student-athletes with the resources necessary to excel professionally upon completion of their athletic careers. These resources are available to student-athletes the minute they step on campus and remain with them throughout their life.
NU for Life programming, initiatives such as I-MAP, and the alumni network have had a significant impact in the post-graduate success for NU student-athletes. Recently collected data indicate nearly 60 percent of the Class of 2017 have secured full-time employment six months after graduation, while nearly 18 percent have enrolled in graduate school and 12 percent are pursuing their sports at the professional level.
