Northwestern Competitors Remain in Contention in California

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team continued action at both the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships and the Jack Kramer Classic on Friday.
 
Both of the Wildcats' doubles teams remained alive in the doubles consolation draw at the National Fall Championships. Alex Chatt and Lee Or defeated Dartmouth's Abigail Chiu and Julia Schroeder 6-3, 6-3, while Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp also advanced with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Syracuse's Gabriela Knutson and Miranda Ramirez.
 
At the Jack Kramer Classic in Rolling Hills Estates, Rheeya Doshi and Inci Ogut both won their first singles match of the day before falling in the round of 16. Doshi topped Sara Khattab of UC Riverside 6-1, 6-2 before falling to UC Santa Barbara's Palina Dubavets in a tight three-set match 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Ogut cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Fresno State's Georgia Lawson before being defeated by Dzina Milovanovic of Pepperdine 6-3, 6-4.
 
In doubles action Doshi and Julie Byrne earned an 8-7 (1) win over UCLA's Sophie Bendetti and Alaina Miller before falling to UC Santa Barbara's Dubavets and Elizaveta Volodko 8-4 in the quarterfinal round.
 
Action continues Saturday at both tournaments.
