PALM DESERT, Calif. -- This all-Northwestern doubles final is apparently a thing.
Alex Chatt and Lee Or will square off with teammates Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp for the consolation doubles championship Sunday at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships after both teams advanced through the semfinals Saturday.
Each squad had earned a spot in the tournament field after they both advanced to the final at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Michigan, two weeks ago. Larner and Lipp won that match to earn an automatic bid into the National Fall Championships while Chatt and Or received an at-large bid.
On Saturday, Chatt and Or needed a comeback to rally past the Florida International team of Ulyana Grib and Maryna Veskler 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Meanwhile, Larner and Lipp were victorious in straight sets, defeating Rice's Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang 6-4, 6-3.
Sunday's championship final will be played in Indian Wells following the consolation singles final which begins at noon Central time.
