Wildcats Continue Competition in California

PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Both Northwestern doubles teams continued their runs at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships on Thursday by posting victories in the consolation draw.
 
The team of Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp was convincing in its win, rolling to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over the fellow Big Ten squad of Anna Sanford and Olivia Sneed from Ohio State.
 
Meanwhile, Alex Chatt and Lee Or were forced to a third-set tiebreak for the second straight day, this time rallying back to pull out a 3-6, 7-6, 1-0 (6) win over Oklahoma State's Vladica Babic and Sofia Blanco.
 
With the wins, the NU teams advance to the consolation quarterfinal round on Friday.
 
At the Jack Kramer Classic in Rolling Hills Estates, freshman Inci Ogut was victorious in her opening singles match as she defeated Lise Sentenac of UC Santa Barbara 6-0, 7-6, 1-0 (4). Caroline Pozo dropped her first match to UC Santa Barbara's Stephanie Yamada 6-2, 7-6, while Rheeya Doshi earned an opening-round bye.
 
In doubles action, Doshi and Julie Byrne won a pair tight of matches. They teamed up to outlast Oregon's Nia Rose and Paiton Wagner, 8-7, before defeating USC's Constance Branstine and Alexa Corcoleotes, 8-7 (1).
 
Ogut and Pozo topped Oregon's Julia Eshet and Daniela Nasser, 8-5, in their first match of the day before falling 8-4 to UC Santa Barbara's Yamada and Atanasson.
