The final round was delayed for several hours due to fog in the morning, forcing a scheduled staggered start at No. 1 to become a shotgun start across the course.
Kim battled through a challenging front nine and ultimately bridied three of her final six holes of the day to end 5-under for the tournament, just one stroke back of the co-medalists. She was one of just five players in the field to finish under par after 54 holes, and was three strokes clear of fourth-place. The Chula Vista, California, native's Monday 66 stands as the second-lowest tournament round in Northwestern history, and her 208 at Poppy Hills is the team's third-best 54-hole score ever.
Cho birdied her first and last holes of Wednesday's third round to finish the day as a team-best 1-under and climb into a tie for eighth, her first Top-10 result of the season. Sophomore Brooke Riley was among the steadiest players in the field, carding a team-best 37 pars in her home state to earn a share of 23rd, her second consecutive Top-25 finish.
As a team, Northwestern finished third in a deep field that included six of the Top-23 teams in the nation. The Wildcats 14-over 865 was 15 shots better than fourth-place, and the team's Tuesday 280 will go into the record book as the fifth-best, single-round score in program history.
Northwestern – 3/15 • 296-280-289 = 865 (+14)
3 – Hannah Kim -- 66-70-72 = 208 (-5)
T8 – Sarah Cho -- 74-71-70 = 215 (+2)
T23 – Brooke Riley -- 78-71-73 = 222 (+9)
T28 – Janet Mao – 80-68-75 = 223 (+10)
T39 – Stephanie Lau – 78-74-74 = 226 (+13)
The Wildcats will finish off the fall schedule at the prestigious East Lake Cup (Oct. 30 – Nov. 1) in Atlanta. The event is a match play competition featuring the four semifinalists from the 2017 NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms, west of Chicago.
