EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern junior midfielder Puck Pentenga is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week the Conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor of her career.
Pentenga is the second Wildcat to earn the recognition this season, joining Kirsten Mansfield who picked up the accolade Sept. 25.
A native of Ede, The Netherlands, Pentenga helped lead Northwestern to two wins over ranked opponents last weekend. In Friday's 5-4 overtime win at No. 22 Iowa, she recorded a hat trick – the first of her career – to help keep the Wildcats in contention for a Big Ten title.
She followed up the effort by recording her league-leading 14th assist of the season on the first goal of the match as NU defeated 24th-ranked UMass 2-1 in double overtime.
In addition to leading the Big Ten in assists, Pentenga also ranks first with 85 shots and fourth with 30 points.
Northwestern (12-4, 5-1 B1G) has won six straight contests and 10 of its last 11 heading into a matchup at Michigan at 3 p.m. Central time Friday. The Wolverines already have clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season title and the Wildcats can earn a share as well with a victory on Friday and a win over Michigan State on Sunday.
