WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Northwestern dropped a 2-0 decision at Purdue on Sunday afternoon in a battle for first place in the Big Ten at the midway point of the conference season.

Northwestern (6-5-2, 3-2-1) took 11 shots on the day with five on goal, but Purdue (9-2-1, 4-0-1) got two goals from Kylie Hase to provide the difference in the match.

The Wildcats, with 10 points, sit tied for third in the conference standings with five regular season contests still to be played.

Senior Kim Jerantowski led the way for the 'Cats with three shots in 34 minutes. First year Regan Steigleder took a pair of shots, while playing the full 90. Junior Brenna Lovera also had two shots. Both of Lovera's efforts were on target.

The Boilemakers put nine shots on goal.

Purdue struck first in the 22nd minute with a fortunate bounce in front of the net. After senior goalkeeper Lauren Clem made consecutive stellar saves, the Boilermakers got a corner kick and took advantage of the ball bouncing around in the six. Hase put the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

Outside of the goal, Clem made four first-half saves.

Hase scored again in the 2nd half in the 58th minute on another deflection off another Purdue corner kick.

Clem made seven saves in all, limiting a strong Boilermaker attack outside of the home squad's fortuitous goals.

Chicago's Big Ten Team stays on the road next weekend with its lone match downstate at Illinois (3-10-0, 0-5-0) on Saturday, Oct. 7. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
