Mansfield Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern redshirt sophomore Kirsten Mansfield is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week the Conference office announced Monday. It is the first such honor of her career.

A native of West Chester, Pennsylvania, Mansfield scored three goals, including two game-winners, in the Wildcats' three contests. Both of NU's wins came over ranked opponents as it defeated No. 15 Louisville, 2-0, on Tuesday before topping 10th-ranked Maryland, 3-2, on Sunday.

Mansfield tallied both of the Wildcats' goals in Tuesday's home win over the Cardinals while helping Northwestern earn its third shutout of the season. She contributed one assist in the team's narrow 4-3 loss at third-ranked Penn State on Friday before notching the game-winner in the second half of Sunday's win at Maryland.

The win was just NU's second ever against the Terrapins in College Park and its first since Maryland joined the Big Ten.

Mansfield is tied for the team lead with five goals this season while ranking second on the squad with 13 points.

Northwestern (7-4, 2-1 B1G) returns to action Friday when it hosts Rutgers at Lakeside Field.
