RICHMOND, Va. — Northwestern dropped only its second match of the season with a 3-0 loss against VCU on Saturday evening to finish the non-conference slate.
The setback snapped Northwestern's nine-match winning streak. Not coincidentally, it was the first time all season that NU trailed in hitting percentage.
The 'Cats fell 25-22, 25-23, 25-17. It is Northwestern's first three-set loss of the season.
Senior Symone Abbott and first year Nia Robinson both tied for the team lead with 10 kills. First year Lexi Pitsas posted a team-high 12 digs, while senior Taylor Tashima had 25 assists.
The Wildcats posted their best hitting percentage performance in the second set, a .235 clip. Symone Abbott led the way, accumulating six kills on 13 TAs.
Northwestern will play again on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Purdue. The #B1GCats will start their Big Ten schedule on national television, playing on the Big Ten Network.
