EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern defeated Missouri 2-1 Thursday night at Martin Stadium in a thrilling come-from-behind win with second-half goals from junior Marisa Viggiano and first-year Mikayla Hampton.

The Wildcats improved to 3-2-1 on the season.

Viggiano registered her second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 67th minute, her second PK conversion of the year, and now has five points through six matches.

The first-year Ohio native Hampton scored her first career goal, in what was her first career start, in the 82nd minute to secure the win for Northwestern.

Lauren Clem made a season-high six saves in the win.

The Wildcats had a number of close chances in the first half, getting off nine shots in the first 45 minutes. First-years Regan Steigleder and Madi Kennel combined for five of those with one of Kennel's on goal.

Missouri broke the deadlock first in the second half, as Jessica Jones collected a cross from Zoe Cross and rifled a shot into the top corner to make it 1-0 in the 60th minute.

Northwestern responded just six minutes later when Steigleder played Kylie Fisher in on goal, only to be fouled in the box by Macy Trujillo for a penalty kick.

Viggiano stepped up and sent goalkeeper Kristen Rivers the wrong way in the 66th minute to equalize the match at 1-1.

In the 78th minute, Johnson created another open chance in front of goal, but Clem denied the breakaway with a forceful save to keep the match level.

Hampton found a pocket of space at the top of the box in the 81st minute and danced with the ball before firing in a perfect shot into the side netting to give the 'Cats a 2-1 winner.

Northwestern outshot the Tigers 20-15 and led 9-7 in shots on goal.

Chicago's Big Ten Team remains at home Sunday when Pepperdine, a team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches' top-25 poll, comes to Martin Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
