HOUSTON, Texas — Former Northwestern standout Reggie Hearn was named to the official 12-member, 2017 USA Basketball Men's AmeriCup Team, USA Basketball announced Monday.
The FIBA AmeriCup features national teams from North America, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. The USA team is coached by former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy and features six players with NBA experience, 11 with NBA G League experience and seven with playing experience overseas.
Hearn spent the 2016-17 season with the Sacramento Kings' G-League affiliate, Reno Bighorns, and averaged 13.5 points per game. The Fort Wayne, Indiana, native led Northwestern as a senior in 2012-13 in scoring and ranked 13th in the Big Ten with an average of 13.4 points per game.
The USA training camp continues through Aug. 24 at the University of Houston's Guy V. Lewis Development Facility. The USA will also train Aug. 25-27 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and will participate in the AmeriCup Group C preliminary round games Aug. 28-30 in Montevideo.
The United States will open its AmeriCup Group C preliminary play on Aug. 28 facing Panama (2 p.m. CT), then meet host Uruguay on Aug. 29 (4:30 p.m. CT) and conclude preliminary play on Aug. 30 against Dominican Republic (2 p.m. CT).
