EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — Northwestern and SIU-Edwardsville played to a 1-1 tie Friday night, but the Wildcats earned a 5-4 advantage in penalty kicks following the draw.
Following the 1-1 draw, both coaches agreed to participate in penalty kicks. Northwestern went 5-for-6 in PKs with Mattias Tomasino, Camden Buescher, Miha Miskovic, Elo Ozumba and Andrew McLeod converting.
After SIUE took a 1-0 lead in the first half, M. Tomasino scored the equalizer in the 58th minute. It was his first goal of the preseason.
Northwestern took eight shots in the contest with four of them coming on net. Miskovic and Francisco Tomasino each made two saves in the effort for NU.
The Wildcats finished the preseason with a 2-0-1 mark and will open the regular season against Valparaiso on Friday, Aug. 25 at Martin Stadium. Kick is set for 7 p.m. CT.
