2017 Northwestern Field Hockey Schedule
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ten games against 2016 NCAA Tournament teams and eight home matches at Lakeside Field highlight the 2017 schedule for the Northwestern field hockey team.
The Wildcats will open their season by playing four of their first five matches against teams that competed in last year's NCAA tournament, all on the road. NU opens up its slate Aug. 26 when it travels to Storrs, Connecticut, to take on Stanford, one day prior to taking on host and 2016 national semifinalist UConn.
Northwestern plays at Providence two days later prior to remaining out east to participate in the B1G/ACC Cup in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The 'Cats face two defending NCAA tourney foes in Boston College (Sept. 1) and Duke (Sept. 3).
NU returns to Evanston to open its home schedule the following weekend, taking on Temple (Sept. 8) and yet another NCAA tournament team in Kent State (Sept. 10).
The Big Ten Conference season gets underway Sept. 15 when Northwestern welcomes Ohio State to Lakeside Field. The competitive schedule continues Sept. 19 when perennial NCAA tournament team Louisville comes to Evanston.
Things won't get any easier the next weekend when the Wildcats head to Big Ten powers Penn State (Sept. 22) and Maryland (Sept. 24).
Northwestern returns home to take on Rutgers Sept. 29 before Indiana comes to town on Oct. 6. The 'Cats head back on the road for two matches the following week, squaring off against Ball State (Oct. 8) before traveling to Iowa (Oct. 13).
The ninth and tenth matches against NCAA tournament opponents are set for the next week with NU hosting UMass Oct. 15 before traveling to Michigan Oct. 20. The regular-season slate concludes Oct. 22 when Northwestern hosts Michigan State on Senior Day.
A new format for the Big Ten tournament is on tap this season with quarterfinal round matchups being played on campus sites Oct. 27-29. The semifinal round and championship match are being held in East Lansing, Michigan, Nov. 3 and 5, respectively.
