Kim Earns Invite To 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

EVANSTON, Ill. –All-American Hannah Kim has earned an exempt spot at the 2017 United States Women's Amateur Championship by virtue of her No. 24 position in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings. The competition returns to California this year for the first time since 1993 and will be hosted at San Diego Country Club (Par-72; 6,423 yards), in Kim's hometown of Chula Vista, from August 7-13.

Play begins with 18 holes of stroke play on Monday, August 7, and another 18 on Tuesday, August 8. From those 36 holes, the Top-64 entrants move on to match play, with one round on Wednesday, two on Thursday, quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals on Saturday, and a 36-hole championship match on Sunday, August 13. Fox Sports 1 (FS1) will air live coverage of portions of all five days of match play.
 
Kim received a pair of All-America honors this year, picking up a Second Team nod from the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), and receiving Third Team laurels from Golfweek. The rising senior also received All-America recognition from both groups in 2016.
 
She won her second consecutive Mary Fossum Award this season, given annually to the Big Ten's best performer relative to par, and picked up her third consecutive First Team All-Big Ten recognition. The two-time Big Ten Player of the Year was the only Conference golfer on Golfweek's three All-America squads.
 
Kim's 72.2 stroke average in 2016-17 is the third lowest in school history (she also posted the No. 1 mark last season), and her 72.86 career scoring average is the best in the Wildcats record book.
 
Kacie Komoto, Janet Mao and Brooke Riley represented Northwestern at the 2016 U.S. Amateur, hosted at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania, outside Philadelphia. All three Wildcats earned their berths in the field through local qualifying events. Komoto carded a 1-under 70 on July 6 at Sportsman's Country Club in Northbrook, Illinois, good for a share of fifth-place in the 86-person field. Mao fired the low score on June 27 at Georgia's St. Ives Country Club, a 2-under 70. Riley shot a 3-over 73 to earn a sixth-place finish at Oakland's Sequoyah County Club on July 5.
