EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's golf alum Mike Finster '87 qualified for his third-straight U.S. Senior Open Monday, finishing as the low entrant at his qualifying location.

A former co-captain of the Wildcats, Finster shot a 68 at Adena Golf & Country Club in Ocala, Florida, to earn one of two qualifying spots from the field. Twenty qualifiers were held nationwide.
The U.S. Senior Open will be played this year at Salem Country Club in Peabody, Massachusetts. It is one of five major championships in senior golf and has been held annually since 1980. Salem Country Club also played host to the event in 2001.
With a lower age limit of 50, the Open will be held on June 29 to July 2. The field will consist of 156 professionals and amateurs and will feature 72-hole stroke play. The field will be cut to the low 60 and ties following the completion of the second round.
More than 16 hours of live television coverage will be broadcast on Fox and FS1.
Finster made the cut at the U.S. Senior Open in 2015 after shooting 79-69 in the first two rounds. He finished in 71st place after shooting 79-73 to close the tournament.
The 52-year-old had a four-year career in Evanston and registered a 76.02 scoring average over 95 rounds. His best season wearing the purple and white came in 1985, when he averaged 74.7 strokes per round as a sophomore. Finster played under head coaches Wally Goodwin and Jim Suttie during his collegiate career.
