NCAA Singles Tournament
EVANSTON, Ill. – The bracket has been finalized for the NCAA Men's Singles Tournament, the NCAA announced Tuesday morning. Opponents and match times are now set for Northwestern seniors Strong Kirchheimer and Konrad Zieba, who both were announced in the field last week.
All 64 participants will play a first-round match on May 24, at the University of Georgia. Start times range from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT. Each successive day will feature the next round of matches, concluding with the national championship May 29.
No. 37 ranked Kirchheimer will face Gabriel Friedrich at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. A redshirt junior at South Carolina, Friedrich is ranked 49th nationally and posted a 26-13 record in singles matches.
With a victory in his first match, Kirchheimer (26-11) would face the winner of No. 3 seed Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest and Tyler Lu of Yale. Kirchheimer met Chrysochos (32-7) in the fall, where he fell in the third set of a tightly contested match.
No. 67 Zieba (22-10) will play at 1:30 p.m. against Notre Dame's Josh Hagar. Currently ranked 51st in the nation, Hagar finished with a 20-15 mark in singles play for the Fighting Irish this season. The two have not faced one another in a singles match during their collegiate careers.
A win on Wednesday would pit Zieba against either No. 2 seed Nuno Borges of Mississippi State or Adam Moundir of Old Dominion.
Both Kirchheimer and Zieba are making their second straight appearances in the national singles tournament.
