#B1GCats Climb to Fourth Place at NCAA Regionals

Day Two Results

BATON ROUGE, La. —
Northwestern men's golf surged up the leaderboard Tuesday as the 'Cats finished the second round at the University Club in a fourth-place tie with Oregon.

The top five teams at the conclusion of Wednesday's play advance to the NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.

The Wildcats' 1-over round was the second-best of the day among all teams, trailing only Duke's even performance. Northwestern shot up four spots, the biggest movement of all 14 teams.

Four NU golfers finished with scores of 73 or lower, the most for any team.

Chicago's Big Ten Team was led by graduate student Conor Richardson, who rebounded to card a 1-under 71 in a round that included five birdies. He is tied for 27th after 36 holes of competition.

In all, the 'Cats netted 17 birdies, behind only Duke's 18. Richardson's seven birdies spread across two days of competition is tied for the ninth-most.

After two days of competition, sophomore Ryan Lumsden is the highest in the scoreboard for the Wildcats. After shooting an even 72 on Monday, the London, England, native shot a 1-over 73 and is in an eighth-place tie.

His 29 pars over two days are tops among all competitors. He has also been one of the best golfers on par threes, as his 2.88 scoring average is tied for second-lowest.

He has played fantastic golf in the spring season, shooting no worse than 1-over in each of his last six rounds. His 71.74 scoring average is on pace to be the seventh-best single season mark in program history.

Freshman Everton Hawkins finished with an even-par 72 after a round that saw him make five birdies, including a pair on holes six and seven. The first-time NCAA Regional participant is tied for 18th with one round to go.

The Irvine, California, native has amassed eight birdies overall, fourth-most to this point in the tournament.

Unanimous First Team All-Big Ten honoree Dylan Wu made three birdies in his first nine holes and finished with a 1-over 73. He is tied for 27th at the conclusion of Tuesday's play.

Redshirt senior Andrew Whalen (+7) is in 44th place after day two.

The 'Cats are matched up with Oregon and Kentucky on Wednesday. Tee times are as follows (all times CT): Andrew Whalen (7:50am), Conor Richardson (8:01am), Dylan Wu (8:12am), Everton Hawkins (8:23am), and Ryan Lumsden (8:34am).
