Wu, Lumsden Named First Team All-Big Ten

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's golf junior Dylan Wu and sophomore Ryan Lumsden were named First Team All-Big Ten, the conference announced Tuesday.

The awards are voted on by Big Ten Conference coaches. Wu was a unanimous selection.

"I'm delighted for Dylan and Ryan. Both have worked incredibly hard and continue to improve every year," said head coach David Inglis. "I'm excited for what lies ahead for these two at the NCAA Championship."

Wu, of Medford, Oregon, is also this year's winner of the Les Bolstad Award, given to the Big Ten golfer with the lowest season stroke average.

The junior's 70.28 average is on pace to be the best mark in school history, edging out Luke Donald's 70.45 mark from the 1998-99 season.

He leads the Wildcats in a variety of categories, including rounds of par or better (22), rounds in 60s (11), and top-five finishes (5). He leads Northwestern with 105 birdies and has been in the top-12 of all 10 tournaments he competed in this season.

His average score is the 15th-lowest in the nation and his par three scoring average (2.98) is among the top three of collegians nationwide.

This is Wu's second-straight season being named All-Big Ten and is his debut on the First Team.

Lumsden has the second-lowest stroke average on the Wildcats (71.69) in his second year in Evanston. He fired off a 4-under 206 (69-69-68) at the Big Ten Championships and came one stroke away from the individual championship.

He was named to the All-Championships Team following his top-five performance. He was the only entrant to shoot under par in all three rounds.

The London, England, native has notched three top-three finishes this season, including a first-place spot at the Marquette Intercollegiate in the fall.

He leads the team with seven eagles and is tied for the team lead with his low round of the season (66). He has the second-most rounds of par or better (14) and rounds in the 60s (10) on the squad.

The Wildcats have had an All-Big Ten honoree in 15 of the last 17 seasons. This is their 33rd and 34th First Team All-Big Ten selections in program history and the second time in the last five seasons that Wildcat teammates have been awarded the honor in the same year.

Additionally, junior Sam Triplett was named Northwestern's Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree for 2015-16.

The NCAA Men's Golf Championship selection show will air on the Golf Channel on Thursday, May 4 at 11 a.m. CT.
