BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- No. 34 Northwestern moved to 7-0 in Big Ten play and ran its winning streak to six with a 7-0 shutout win at Indiana on Sunday.
NU ran its overall record to 11-8 with the victory while the Hoosiers fall to 11-11 overall and 2-5 against league foes.
Victories at Nos. 1 and 3 gave the 'Cats the doubles point. At No. 3, Rheeya Doshi and Jillian Rooney notched a 6-2 win, while the 14th-ranked team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp earned a 6-4 victory at No. 1.
The Wildcats' got off to a good start in singles play, capturing the first set in five of the six matches. Chatt increased NU's lead to 2-0 when she finished off a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win over Caitlin Bernard at No. 3.
The Hoosiers made things interesting, though, as four of the remaining five matches went to a third set. Nearly five of the matches went to a third set, but Lee Or was able to close out Natalie Whalen at No. 4 by winning a second-set tiebreak to take her match 6-4, 7-6.
At No. 1, Lipp played a pair of close first two sets against Madison Appel but dominated the third clinch the match for the 'Cats, winning 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
Northwestern also picked up a trio of three-set victories. Rooney topped Kim Schmider at No. 5, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, while Doshi topped Paula Gutierrez 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (1) at No. 2 and Brooke Rischbieth rallied back to outlast Alicia Robinson 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6
Northwestern returns to action at 5 p.m. Friday when it hosts Penn State.
